HoustonWorks USA Receives S.T.E.M. Grant from Shell Oil Company

Money to Expand Program to Include High School Students

HOUSTON (February 4, 2010) – HoustonWorks USA today announces the receipt of a $140,000 grant from Shell Oil Company (Shell) to be used to expand HoustonWorks USA’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics (S.T.E.M.) institute for the summer of 2010. The expansion will include adding high school students and partnering with Rice University to host the program.

“We are so honored to have received this grant from Shell Oil Company” said Larry V. Green, CEO, HoustonWorks USA.  “The partnership we have built with Shell through our S.T.E.M. program has been very rewarding for our organization and also for the hundreds of students who have participated in the program.  We are very excited to be expanding the program from just middle school students to include high school students and a new partnership with Rice University.  This is going to be a really great opportunity for students.”

The 2010 S.T.E.M. Program will be held in July on the campuses of Texas Southern University and Rice University.  Students who are interested in participating should visit www.houstonworks.org for additional information.
