Since its founding in 1984 by then Houston Mayor Kathy Whitmire, HoustonWorks USA has had a unique and varied history. Deeply embedded within the Houston community, HoustonWorks USA has consistently maintained a high level of performance while demonstrating the ability to remain flexible and responsive to the changing characteristics of the 21st Century job market.
Mayor Whitmire envisioned transitioning federal employment and training funds from the City of Houston to a new, private, non-profit organization – the Houston Job Training Partnership Council (HJTPC). The HJTPC, responsible for administering the federally funded workforce programs within the City of Houston, was the beginning of the organization we now know as HoustonWorks USA.
Job Training and Placement, Scholarships, Consulting, Technical Initiatives focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, Summer Job Programs along with Youth Summits are just part of the offerings from the HoustonWorks USA of today.
